Keeping Water Out at the Naval Research Laboratory
Water always finds the path of least resistance, and at the Naval Research Laboratory, it found a way into Building A50. That’s when the Naval Facilities Engineering Command engaged GPD to help resolve water intrusion issues along the four sides of the building.
GPD initiated a plan focused on maintenance improvements that include excavation around the perimeter of the building, installation of a sheet membrane waterproofing system, regrading of adjacent lawn areas and installation of storm drainage infrastructure to convey the water away from the facility and new pervious pavement.
The contract was signed, the building was sealed, and the completed project delivered, ultimately creating an environment to control, collect and release surface water into the existing storm system at an acceptable rate.
