“In April 2020, voters in Avon overwhelmingly supported a levy to fund the expansion of their existing library. The Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch is nearly three times larger and is well-poised to meet future demands of its patrons while safeguarding what libraries have long been associated with: books.”
–“A New Chapter in Avon,” Properties Magazine, April 2023 A New Chapter in Avon
This project included an expansion to the existing library and additional services that were desired by the patrons such as newer technology, fabrication equipment, and a new drive-up window. GPD provided program verification services, including a virtual town hall to survey the public and target their thoughts on technology for the new library. Our team interpreted the data into a diagrammatic plan and 3D renderings to express LPLS’ and the community’s vision for the addition / renovation.
“Part of our design solution was to satisfy a requirement of keeping the building open during construction. We wanted to ensure library services would remain available to the community during construction.”
-Jason Nolde, Project Manager, GPD Group A New Chapter in Avon
The library now hosts a variety technology in their new room, Create Space, with a laser engraver, 3D printer, vinyl printing / cutting system, and zSpace augmented reality programs. Other new spaces include a gaming area with e-sports lounge, quiet reading room, The Norton Family Foundation Demonstration Kitchen, public computers, a large meeting room, and an outdoor reading garden.
